Cultural activities

You’re within easy walking distance of the compact city centre, with its cosy and lively atmosphere. The central market place has many pubs and terrasses from where you can admire the belfy and the Aldermen’s house, being the oldest of the Netherlands. You can visit the impressive gothic St Martins Church and the city museum ‘Gasthuys’ that marks the oldest part of the town. For theatre, music and dance performances, check the program of our cultural centre CC De Werf. If you like to learn more about the history of Aalst and some of its famous inhabitants such as Louis Paul Boon, Valerius De Saedeleer, or Dirk Martens, you can talk a walk with an experienced guide. And if you have the chance to visit the lively weekly market on Saturday morning, don’t miss it.
